With shows like American Chopper highlighting just how much time, money, and effort goes into the highly-customized motorcycles with long handlebars and low ground clearance. Yet as American as choppers may seem, over in Japan choppers are even more popular. Well-known custom shop Shiun Craft Works recently rolled out an all-electric chopper that is as green as it is awesome.
Nicknamed “Choppers Forever”, the Shiun all-electric chopper ditches the usual V-Twin engine for a 72-volt motor making 77 ft-lbs of torque. That helps this cool cruiser go down the ¼ mile in just over 12 seconds, and to a top speed of 205 kph/127 mph.
While this all-electric chopper doesn’t have all important specs like range or charging time listed, it is an excellent example of how EVs can inspire and influence the world of custom vehicles. The hard angles and simple design is both retro and futuristic all at the same time, and the motor/battery setup doesn’t look out of place at all on this chopper.
American designer Todd Perkins has designed his own custom electric chopper, nicknamed Scrape, proving that this is an idea with fans on multiple continents. But will the appeal be wide enough, and if so, when can we expect a zero emissions version of American Chopper?
