Tokyo 2013: Lexus Launches 2015 RC300h Sport Hybrid

Lexus hybrid RC300h

Toyota is set to launch its newest Lexus hybrid at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon. Called the RC300h and based on the compact Lexus IS sports sedan, the RC300h “sport hybrid” promises sporty, RWD handling in a curvaceous coupe body meant to take on BMW’s upcoming 4 series coupes and convertibles and the new Acura Super-handling AWD hybrid sport sedans.
Toyota/Lexus hasn’t released any performance specs. as of yet, but the IS hybrid (on which the RC300h is based) is good for more than 220 hp and over 50 MPG (based on the European 4.3L/100 km rating), which should put the car’s performance on par with BMW’s turbo-diesels, at least.
If I’m reading the tea-leaves correctly, the launch of this new-for-2015 RC300h sport hybrid is good news for Scion FR-S fans. Building a bunch of these, in other words, might make an “economies of scale” situation happen and bring about a KERS-equipped FR-S sport hybrid that’s actually somewhat affordable- and a reasonably affordable F1-like tech experience is something that, I’m sure, enthusiasts of all stripes will be able to get behind. From there, the promised Toyota/BMW hybrid supercar just makes sense.
Expect the Lexus 2015 RC300h to hit dealers early next year, and stay tuned on November 19th, when, according to Toyota, all will be revealed. Until then, enjoy the high-resolution RC300h pictures, below.
