Subaru Enters The Hybrid Market

Sources suggest that the first Subaru hybrid car could soon debut in March at the upcoming New York Auto Show.

In 2009 Subaru first showed their interest in hybrid vehicles with their Advanced Tourer Concept car. Now the news is that Subaru will have a hybrid vehicle out sometime in 2013. With this being Subaru’s first attempt in the hybrid market an all-electric model seems unlikely.

Reports claim that Subaru’s hybrid system might be very similar to the hybrid system used by Honda in its Integrated Motor Assist setup and be made in house.  This is good news for Subaru divers who are looking for an all-wheel vehicle that’s a little easier on the wallet at the pump. Frankly, I am surprised that it took Subaru this long to enter the hybrid field.

Full disclosure, I own and drive a Subaru WRX and love it. The speed is great; the all-wheel drive is a must in the North East, but the miles per gallon and premium gas make me cringe. I for one am interested in a Subaru hybrid car as long as the all-wheel drive and reliability stay top notch.
