Details of McLaren’s new P1 hybrid hypercar are leaking steadily ahead of the car’s Geneva launch – but this latest news is sure to be the most exciting for a generation of gear-heads lusting for ever more powerful cars to occupy their bedroom posters. The McLaren P1 will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 mated to an electric motor capable of delivering an additional 180 hp and more than 190 lb-ft of torque. With all the pedals mashed and buttons pressed, the P1 will have 916 combined horses pushing its shapely derrière down the tarmac at an alarming rate.
This latest round of information about the McLaren P1 hybrid includes the best look yet at the car’s drivetrain arrangement …
… which shows that battery is installed low on the underside of the carbon fiber chassis to minimize the negative impact its mass will have on handling.
McLaren claims the P1 hybrid’s batteries will need two hours to achieve a full charge when using a plug-in charger (presumably 220V) which can be found in the luggage compartment. The 211 lb. battery will allow the McLaren P1 to travel as a fully-electric car for up to 6 miles.
