Legislation is being considered that requires electric vehicles and other hybrids to emit sounds alerting passengers of their presence. This will obviate one of the beauties of an electric ride, namely the peace that comes with driving the roads without listening to the explosions associated with combustion engines.
This is a video with the Chevy Volt demonstrating one of its ideas to alert pedestrians with a rather obnoxious horn honking. The lights also blink which makes no sense to us and only adds to the unsettling effect. Blind people would have to jaywalk in order to put themselves in harm's way of an electric vehicle and even then, the tire noise would be enough to warn them.
How do you feel about Nissan Leafs and Chevy Volts emitting a constant warning noise? Here we are trying to fix the air pollution and end up adding noise pollution in its stead.
