One of the cool features of the Tesla Model S is the rear facing third row seats that allow smaller folks to ride back there, thus making the car a true 7 passenger model. But feedback from customers has convinced Tesla to delete the third row seats and the second row bench seat and replace everything with two comfy forward facing seats separated by a large center arm rest with built in cup holders and a generous storage compartment.
The “Executive Seating” option features more firmly bolstered seats with two-zone seat heaters. The important people riding back there can also control the car’s audio and climate control systems as well as the settings for the panoramic sunroof using the Tesla app on their smart phones.
The package costs a mere $2000, but can only be ordered in conjunction with the $3500 Premium Interior Package, featuring extended nappa leather and LED accent lighting, along with $750 Subzero Weather Package, which adds heated rear seats along with a heated steering wheel and defrosters for the windshield wipers and washer nozzles. So the total cost of all this executive privilege comes to $6250. That’s still a lot less than executive packages from other premium manufacturers like Mercdes and Jaguar. Those require an extended wheelbase version of their cars that sells for much more money.
Tesla has shown itself to be unusually responsive to customer needs. The “Executive Seating” package will probably prove quite popular for business types accustomed to being chauffeured from place to place rather than driving themselves.
