Mission Motorcycles Now Mission Electric

mission_motorcycles_rs_motorcycle-3

It’s been a long and winding road for the company formerly known as both Mission Motorcycles Mission Motors. As far back as 2009 the electric superbike maker was setting land speed records, and since then it’s run side-by-side with the fastest electric motorcycles in the world.
The only problem with the Mission R and Mission RS is, despite a coming-out party last year, they still haven’t hit dealerships. The latest news from the newly-formed Mission Electric is these bikes won’t be delivered until the second or third quarter of 2015, reports Asphalt and Rubber. That’s no bueno for the patient deposit holders, some of whom have been waiting years for their electric superbikes. Why the delay?
Well…Mission has undergone several ownership and direction changes over the years, and it appears that the new Mission Electric has vastly expanded its scope beyond just electric motorcycles and selling EV components to OEMs. The new Mission Electric webpage includes Automotive, Marine, and Heavy Equipment categories alongside its motorcycles, indicating that Mission’s ambitions have grown exponentially. At the bottom of their new homepage, Mission has job applications at the bottom of their page too, despite the fact that, at least as far as I know, nobody has actually taken delivery of a Mission product.
That’s a shame, because the Mission RS sounds amazing. A three-second flat 0 60 MPH run, a top speed of 150 MPH, and a real-world driving range of 140 miles, which is nearly double what most affordable EVs can do. For a company with some really great technology, they seem to be having a hell of a time bringing it to market.
Meanwhile, customers who are waiting for their $60,000 electric superbikes are over here like “Hey, remember me?”
