Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid Gets Racy R-Design Package

The Volvo V60 Diesel Plug-In Hybrid is everything we want in a car, and the newly-announced R-Design package adds extra street cred to this Swedish wagon. While purely an aesthetics package, this could be the first step towards the performance Volvo hybrid wagon we have all been dreaming of.
For the unfamiliar, the in-demand Volvo V60 Diesel Plug-In is pretty much the ultimate in practicality, boasting a 215 horsepower five-cylinder turbodiesel driving the front wheels and a 68 horsepower electric motor for the rear wheels. Oh, and let’s not forget the more-than 400 ft-lbs of combined torque, all in a shapely wagon capable of 131 MPGe, and 31 miles of pure-electric driving.
And Volvo just sweetened the deal with the R-Design package.
Adding 18-inch Ixion wheels, Volvo also gave the V60 hybrid a new front and rear diffuser for a lower, sportier look. On the inside, black nuback textile and perforated leather seats, and a unique black headliner to go along with all the “R” badges. Purely aesthetic upgrades, but it certianly gives the Volvo wagon a sportier taste.
Alas, Volvo decided to leave the drivetrain alone, at least for now. With the Chinese-owned Swedish automaker bouncing back in a big way with gorgeous concepts and cutting-edge engines though, it leaves the door open for a performance (perhaps using a KERS hybrid system??) take on the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid at a future date.
