Pricing for the 2014 Toyota Prius
Liftback hybrid has been announced, and this year's version of the car that spawned an entire family of hybrids will cost the same as the 2013 model.
Like last year, a base Prius One will start at $24,025, including destination. Intermediate Prius Two, Three, and Four models will start at $25,010, $27,575, and $29,245, respectively.
The range-topping Prius Five will start at $30,815--again, the same price as the 2013 model.
The price isn't the only thing that has stayed the same. The 2014 Prius Liftback is essentially identical to last year's model.
The EPA's fueleconomy.gov site doesn't list mpg numbers for the 2014 Prius, but its should retain the 2013's 50 combined mpg combined (51 mpg city, 48 mpg highway).
Unlike the Liftback, the 2014 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid did get a price cut: the 2014 models are $2,000 to $4,600 cheaper than before, starting at $29,990.
Toyota is likely biding its time until the launch of an all-new 2015 Prius.
The new Prius will probably retain its signature one-box profile, but other major changes are expected.
Toyota is reportedly aiming for 55 mpg with the new model, something that may be accomplished with switch to a lithium-ion batter pack.
Persistent rumors also point to all-wheel drive
as a possible option on the new model.
For now though, Toyota will continue selling the Prius we're all familiar with. If you find change unsettling, snap one up before the new model arrives.
