2014 Ford Fiesta Achieves 26/35/29 MPG With 197 Horsepower

Ford released the fuel efficiency ratings for the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST, and you can color me impressed. It achieves 26 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway, with a combined rating 29 MPG. Not bad for an almost 200-horsepower hot hatchback.
That is better than its closest competitor, the Fiat 500 Abarth. The Fiat 500 Abarth achieves 28 MPG in the city, and 34 MPG on the highway, which translates to 31 MPG combined. However, the Abarth is not as powerful, offering just 160 horsepower to the Fiesta’s 197. The Fiesta ST starts at $22,195, compared to the $22,700 of the Fiat, a $500 difference. Both prices include the hidden “destination charge.”
You so often have to choose between power and efficiency when shopping for gasoline-powered cars. But the Ford Fiesta ST offers 202 foot-pounds of torque and 197 HP out of its 1.6 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. The Ford Fiesta also offers 15 cubic-feet of storage space, compared to just 9.5 feet in the Fiat. The US version of the Ford Fiesta ST will be offered as a 5-door hatchback, while Europe will get a two-door hatchback, making more room for more people as well.
It should be noted that the 26/35/29 ratings what Ford has submitted to the EPA for certification, not a result of actual EPA testing. Still, the numbers should be close enough to prove that you can have a fast, fun, and affordable performance car with good gas mileage these days.
