Tesla Model X SUV Delayed For A Year

tesla-model-x-01

Make no mistake about it, the Tesla Model S is a roaring success for Elon Musk, and 2013 is set to be the breakout year. Teslas are rolling off the assembly line at a pace of 400 cars per week, and later this year the Tesla Model X was set to debut as well. We saw was because now comes news that the Tesla Model X debut has been pushed back until 2014, so the company can focus on producing Model S sedans.
The official statement from Tesla reads as such:
Tesla has been intensely focused on Model S, its production and product enhancements and believe there is increased volume potential for Model S. As a result, Tesla has decided to slightly push back the development and timing of Model X to 2014. We do not expect a material impact on our profitability in 2013 or 2014.
You can almost hear the disheartened cries of wealthy soccer moms and trophy wives everywhere. The Tesla Model X was designed to appeal towards families, and in the first weeks after its debut reportedly racked up thousands of reservations. Will this delay result in some reservations being pulled? Perhaps.
But if Tesla feels this is the best course of action, who are we to argue? The electric car company has so far gotten the launch of the Model S right, and they’ve even secured $10 million to build the Model X in California. No point in rushing an unfinished product to market if it isn’t ready; Tesla’s reputation doesn’t need a blackeye from an unready product right now.
We can’t wait to see the Tesla Model X, some time in 2014.
