America might be giving up on alternative fueled vehicles, but Australia sure is not! The country of Australia has a small population, around 22,620,600 people; however, it is a population that has fallen in love with hybrid cars. The month of June saw an 84% increase in sales of hybrid cars by private buyers in the country.
Hybrid Sales Surge In The Land Down Under
In 2011 there were 8,820 hybrid sold in Australia, but only 2,212 went to private buyers. However, by the end of June 2012 there were already 1,950 hybrids sitting in private driveways across Australia.
So what is driving the Australian hybrid car boom? Well there seems to be a few reasons. Toyota has an Australian plantthat assembles the Camry Hybrid, so hybrid cars are easily accessible to the island nation’s population. Additionally, Toyota has lowered the price of the hybrid Camry and Prius in Australia and gas prices in Australia, as in the rest of the world, keep fluctuating at drastic levels.
Saving More Than Just Gas Money
With such an increase in hybrid sales in Australia, many Australian insurance companies are taking advantage of the boom.The Royal Automobile Club (RAC) of Western Australia is offering up to 25% off comprehensive motor insurance, a reduction in interest of up to 2.5% on a car loan and a free upgrade to the next level of roadside assistance for cars emitting 150 grams of CO2/km or less. The group has said there are 360 current vehicle models meet this standard.
RAC are not he only ones awarding hybrid drivers. The National Roads and Motorists’ Association Insurance ( NRMA) now offers a 10% discount on comprehensive premiums for vehicles using less than 5.5 liters per 100km, while Victorian hybrid owners get a $100 discount on their vehicle registration.

Hybrid has well specification and features with, advance technology. The car is lighter and more efficient to manage and therefore less significant fuel with able to maintain well speed and fuel economy. And not only that, when a hybrid car is running, it recharges the battery. When it is slow or not moving at all, or when braking, it also recharges itself. Logically the more electricity the car uses less fuel it uses.
