A British Columbia, Canada, point-of-sale incentive program begins 1 Dec. and will provide between C$2,500 and C$5,000 (US$2,454—4,908) off the sticker price for qualifying new battery electric, fuel cell electric, plug-in hybrid electric and compressed natural gas vehicles bought or leased on or after 1 Dec. 2011.
The rebates are part of the “Canada Starts Here: The BC Jobs Plan”, announced by Environment Minister Terry Lake and Energy and Energy and Mines Minister Rich Coleman. In addition to the vehicle rebates, the province is providing more than $6 million in funding for new charging stations and upgrades to hydrogen fueling stations at existing facilities.
Homeowners who want to install dedicated charging stations in their homes for their clean energy vehicles will get a rebate of up to $500 per qualifying station.
Further, $2.5-million in BC SCRAP-IT Society funding will expand the non-profit group’s initiative to remove high-polluting vehicles from B.C. roads. BC SCRAP-IT Society has removed over 30,000 vehicles from B.C. roads, resulting in a reduction of over 200,000 tonnes of GHGs.
