Out of Holland comes the Carice Mk1, a replica based on the classic look of the Porsche 356 with an electric drivetrain and a curb weight under 800 pounds. Just don’t expect much in the way of power or range; this replica is meant for cruising around town.
Powertrain options will be a 20 horsepower electric motor and a 54 horsepower model, though if you’re just looking to spoil the kids, a 5 horsepower “junior” model is also planned. So how does Carice keep the weight down? It uses a plastic body and a single backbone suspension, with the lithium-ion battery integrated into the chassis. Carice managed to achieve a near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution with the Mk1, and the cost for this hand-built replica will be about $36,000 when it goes on sale next year. A tiny range extender, and even a hydrogen-powered model are planned down the road.
Want one? Better hurry, as Carice only plans to build 10 or so of these electrified Porsche replicas.
