Is Tesla The Most Important Automaker In The World?

Adam Jonas, the same guy who predicts that Tesla could earn 60 times what it is earning today, says that Tesla is the most important automaker in the world today. He’s bullish on the electric automaker to say the least, and so far the automaker hasn’t let him down. Elon Musk and Tesla are in the news almost daily, and it’s become the most talked-about automaker the past year despite not spending a penny on marketing.
 The L.A. Times reports that the analyst for Morgan Stanley (Tesla’s debt underwriter, it should be noted) believes the automaker is so important because;
  • Automakers are paying attention to Tesla, and responding with advances and teams of their own. The success of the Model S is pushing other automakers to innovate, and they also want to work with the electric automaker
  • Tesla is having a positive effect on the U.S. economy. Jonas predicts Tesla could employ 20,000 people in seven years and create 100,000 related jobs at other companies. The Gigafactory alone has five different states fighting over its location.
  • Once the Gigafactory goes online, the Model S will be the “most American made car on the road, pushing 90 percent US content.” That’s a big talking point.
I think you’d have a hard time making the argument that there’s a more important automaker. Elon Musk’s electric car company has done what no other automaker could, or would do. If not Tesla, which automaker would you argue is the most important to the industry?
