When the first images of the upcoming 2017 Volvo S90 sedan were leaked along with news that the car would be shown at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show in a few weeks’ time, we wondered how long we’d have to wait for new of a hybrid version. Well- not long at all, as it turns out, because Volvo has announced that it will be showing off a 407 HP twin-engine hybrid S90 at that very show.
That’s right. The new for 2017 Volvo S90 hybrid is expected to pack the same twin-engine powerplant first shown the XC60 plug-in hybrid concept car and the XC90 hybrid, and deliver 7 more HP thanthe original 8.0 liter V10 Dodge Viper while offering drivers more than 25 miles (45 km) of all-electric driving range.
That’s great news for Volvo fans looking for a safe, powerful alternative to hybrids like the Toyota Prius or similarly luxurious Mercedes S500 Hybrid- and maybe bad news for Tesla, if the Volvo S90 hybrid turns out to be good enough to snatch the “safest car ever” title from the Model S.
