Tesla Model X Pays More Attention To Women’s Needs

model-x-debut

Dudes love the techniness of the Tesla Model S, and as a dude, I totally get it. The big touchscreen, the 416 horsepower, the booming sound system; these are all features geared towards guys. The Tesla Model X will be more female-friendly, according to Elon Musk, and it will look even better than the 2012 concept car.
In his regular shareholders meeting, Musk took questions that inevitably turned towards the Model X, Tesla’s next big debut vehicle. Initial production is still slated to begin at the end of 2014 for “Signature” models, but full-scale production has been delayed until at least the second quarter of 2015. As I recently speculated, the undeniably cool falcon-wing doors are proving troublesome for the Model X design, and Musk wants opening the door to produce an audible “Wow!” from drivers. Not sure I get that one, but whatever.
Speaking of drivers, the Model X was undoubtedly conceived with women drivers (soccer moms in particular) in mind, and I can already see it being the hottest ticket among the Silicon Valley PTA crowd. Musk admits the Model S was a bit too “guy-centric”, and he’s hoping to “correct that” with the Model X.
So what has Tesla done to make the Model X more appealing to women, who prefer the Nissan Leaf to the Tesla Model S by almost a 2-to-1 margin? Musk wouldn’t talk specifics, though one feature everybody would find useful would be a more accurate range estimator. Less in-your-face technology with more practical uses would also help appeal to the fairer sex, and the Model X might also place less important on performance, and more on a comfortable riding experience. Regardless, Tesla already has more than 12,000 pre-orders for the Model X, meaning there’s a large chunk of people who don’t care about specifics; they just want a Tesla SUV.
As far as the production Model X looking “better”, we’ll just have to wait for the official unveiling to judge for ourselves.
