Honda Testing Extended Range EV Similar to Chevy Volt

Honda CR-Z

According to a source for Motortrend, Honda Motor Company is testing a system similar to the Chevy Volt's range extender plug-in hybrid system for the Japanese firm's medium to large passenger cars and SUVs. The difference is that Honda would employ an engine and electric motor setup, which, when all the stored electricity is used, would automatically switch to an on-board capacitor that would further extended its range. Apparently, Honda will use their new system in models like the Accord.

A little late to the party, don't you think? Honda has pretty much stuck to their fuel cell shtick and delayed work on electric vehicles. Now they are going to try and develop an extended range electric vehicle three years after Chevrolet began. Who knows, maybe they can surprise us and be quick about it.
