The 2015 Hyundai Sonata and 2015 Hyundai Genesis made their world debut alongside the hydrogen powered 2015 Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell CUV at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.
Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 philosophy can be seen throughout their newly refined lineup. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata maintains the style cues of the recent Hyundai lineup, which has raised the bar for design in the mid-size segment. A redesigned front fascia helps the Sonata show of its crisp lines and achieves a drag coefficient of only 0.27, the lowest in its class (excluding hybrids).
Tips are plentiful in the dual exhaust Limited and the quad-tipped Sport models giving the appearance of a heartier engine than the typical 2.4 and 2.0T options. Inside the Sonata proves that it’s the little things in life that make it easier. Center stack controls are angled toward the driver to provide quick access, and all controls have been placed at what Hyundai feels is the optimal spot for comfortable use. Typical Hyundai safety features and technology are peppered throughout the Sonata, and a new feature dubbed Smart Trunk opens up the truck by simply tapping the key fob to the trunk lid.
The 8-inch navigation system offers useful split screen abilities to allow simultaneous viewing of music and maps. New Blue Link additions include Google destination searches, remote start timer and the Hyundai Assurance Car Care app to assist in the scheduling of service appointments.
Underneath its sleek body, more than 50% of the Sonata’s platform utilizes high-strength steel to provide superior strength, and a revised multilink rear suspension gives the Sonata responsive handling. If the Sonata isn’t your cup of tea though, Hyundai has brought along some friends.
Back in 2008, Hyundai entered into the luxury market with the Genesis. Competing with long term contenders like BMW, Cadillac and Mercedes, the Hyundai Genesis ushered in the “Fluidic Sculpture” philosophy. Since then the Hyundai Genesis has picked itself off the luxurious ground and become a serious contender in its class.
