Here is a well done video documenting the GM EV1, a car that was obviously well ahead of its time.
An EV1 with Ovonics NiMH batteries could travel 140 miles or more per charge. Imagine this car with an equivalent weight of lithium. Would it have traveled 300 miles between charges? Would that have been enough to assuage the so called "range anxiety" of the masses? Now, GM is going to give us a 40 mile range Volt that starts at $41,000. Doesn't seem like progress to us.
