Rivian R1T Truck & R1S SUV Wow NYC Ahead Of Auto Show - VIDEO

Rivian impresses before the show even opens.

The New York Auto Show doesn’t officially open to the public until April 19th, but that doesn’t mean the fun hasn’t already started.
The weekend before an auto show opens is usually the real kickoff party, with manufacturers trying to get a jump on the competition, and many opt to show off their new vehicles before they hit the show floor the following week. That precisely what Rivian did with its R1T electric pickup truck and R1S electric SUV.
The Rivian R1T on display in NYC
Rivian, the upstart electric vehicle manufacturer from Plymouth, Michigan, promises to bring us “The world’s first electric adventure vehicles” held invite-only events last night in New York City. I say “events” because according to Rivian, so many people asked for invitations, that they had to hold two events, one from 4pm to 6pm, and another from 7pm to 9pm.
I know this happens to be true, because I was originally sent an invitation that said the event was from 6pm to 9pm. Then, a few days later, Rivian reached back to me to say they needed to have two events, and I had to pick one of the two time slots.
Rivian was able to secure a space on Pier 76 (a real pier on the Hudson River) directly behind the Jacob Javits center where the New York Auto Show is held. This space is normally occupied by the Classic Car Club at Hudson River, and in order to make room for Rivian, they had to move cars like a couple dozen rare cars out into the parking lot for the night.
Both the R1T pickup truck, and R1S sport utility vehicle, have a power opening/closing hood that conceals a huge front trunk. While you can certainly fit a lot of gear/luggage, etc. up there, it will probably be difficult to load & unload anything heavy, because of the height.
These events were mostly for VIPs and reservation holders; they weren’t press events where we could schedule interview time, so unfortunately nothing new was learned. I suspect if Rivian is going to announce any new news, it will be done so during the Auto Show for maximum exposure.
As you might expect, the crowd was extremely enthusiastic, and it reminded me of how it feels at Tesla events. Since most of the people in attendance were reservation holders, they were already on-board with what Rivian is doing. Plus, for most, it was their first opportunity to see the vehicles that they plunked $1,000 down on to reserve.
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe was on hand chatting it up with many in attendance. There was a line of people waiting to say hello and ask him questions. From what I could tell, he did his best to greet as many people as he could, and give them a few minutes before moving on the next person eager to meet him.
Immediately after the event, I sat down with Alex from E For Electric to discuss Rivian on this week’s Plugged In show. Let us know what you think of Rivian in the comments below. Will they be the first to bring an electric pick up truck to market, or will Tesla or another competitor beat them to it? What do you like and dislike about the R1T & R1S?

Tesla Pickup Truck Unveiling Set For Later This Year

Tesla Pickup Truck

Two major Tesla unveilings in one year. Oh my!

The first major event in less than two weeks away. That’s the unveiling of the Tesla Model Y electric crossover on March 14. Word of this unveiling was just officially released by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Now we learn of yet another major Tesla reveal.
The latest info put forth by Musk states that the Tesla truck will be unveiled later this year. No exact timeframe is provided though. Tesla’s only real rival on the electric pickup truck front seems to be Rivian with its R1T truck. Rivian shocked the world with the reveal of this truck at last year’s LA Auto Show and we’re still impressed by it today.
If we can’t make the Model Y, can we differ to the next event? With such short notice, it will be very difficult. Plus the date is over school break here in 🇨🇦 and a lot of people fly south.
Yes. Personally, I’m most excited by the Tesla Truck. Maybe it will be too futuristic for most people, but I love it.
332 people are talking about this
We hope it’s not super futuristic. Unique is fine, but futuristic might not play out so well in the world of trucks. We shall see.
Add in the Tesla Supercharger Version 3.0 news and the recent announcement of the $35,000 Tesla Model 3 and it’s obvious the automaker is on a roll these days. Exciting times lie ahead in the land of Tesla.

Which company will sell the first personal-use electric pickup?

Rivian R1T electric pickup concept

If electric cars are going to take over from internal combustion machines, they will need to be offered in the most popular types of vehicles—and that means pickups.

Electric-car fans seem to be clamoring for electric pickups, and some startup automakers—along with Tesla—are starting to respond.
At November's LA auto show, Michigan-based startup Rivian showed a concept version of its R1T electric pickup, which it says it plans to sell starting in 2021.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the company plans to design an electric pickup to follow its Model Y SUV, which was originally scheduled to go on sale in 2019. With production of the Model 3 just getting into full swing, though the company hasn't mentioned a start date for the Model Y recently.

Ford has confirmed it plans to build a hybrid version of its F-150 starting in 2020, and, speaking in October at the 100th anniversary of Ford's giant Rouge factory, chairman Bill Ford hinted that the company will eventually build an all-electric F-150 "when the time comes."

New York startup Bollinger Motors, which has shown a concept version of a heavy-duty SUV it plans to build, also showed a pickup design in October. Like Bollinger's SUVs, it would be a heavy-duty pickup, likely a one-ton, so heavier than most personal-use pickups, but designed more for off-roaders, hunters, or campers, rather than contractors. The company did not release a timeline.

This Lone Rivian R1T Electric Truck Video Shows All

We can’t get enough of this incredible electric truck. Build it now!

We sure hope Rivian can bring its R1T electric pickup truck to market, and sooner rather than later. Depending on timing, and what plays out with other automakers, it will likely be the world’s first production electric pickup truck. It’s not quite the same as the average truck on the market today. Some would argue that it falls short in certain areas, while others are quick to say it ups the ante on so many levels. Sure, Rivian didn’t design it to be a working truck. Instead, it built the R1T with the family in mind, along with a focus on storage, capability, innovation, and adventure.
Immediately following the LA Auto Show, we shared a wealth of videos showcasing the R1T. Sadly, news slowed not long after the epic show came to a close. While we wait for further announcements from Rivian, this newest R1T video helps satisfy our appetite. We can only wish the automaker much success and hope that its plans come to fruition.
What do you think of the Rivian R1T? Leave us your thoughts in the comment section below.

FIRST EVER Electric Pickup Truck – 2021 RIVIAN R1T
Watch now the 2021 Rivian R1T, the first ever electric pickup truck!!!
Rivian, an electric vehicle manufacturer, has released information about the first of its two Electric Adventure Vehicles the R1T, an all-electric, 5-passenger pickup.
Rivian’s vehicles also feature a quad-motor system that delivers 147kW (197 horsepower) with precise torque control to each wheel, enabling active torque vectoring and maximum performance in every situation, from high-speed cornering to low-speed rock crawling. With 3,500 Nm of grounded torque per wheel (14,000 Nm of torque for the full vehicle), the R1T can reach 60 mph in 3 seconds and 100 mph in less than 7 seconds. This powertrain and chassis also enable the R1T’s tow rating of 11,000 pounds.
The battery is designed for fast charging with charging rates of up to 160kW. This enables approximately 200 miles of range to be added in 30 minutes of charging. In addition to DC fast-charging, an 11kW onboard charger facilitates rapid charging at a Level 2 charger.
The R1T will be produced at Rivian’s manufacturing plant in Normal Il, from late 2020.

Atlis XT Electric Pickup Truck Revealed: 500-Mile Range, Tows 35,000 Pounds

Might there be a competitor for the Rivian R1T electric pickup truck?
Atlis Motor Vehicle company is a new-ish name on the scene, but it’s soon to break out after this news.
Atlis says its XT electric pickup truck is among the most capable trucks to ever be revealed. According to the automaker, the truck can be configured to go up to 500 miles on electric by selecting the largest battery pack.
In addition to the long range, the towing capacity is impressive at up to 35,000 pounds. The payload is listed at up to 5,000 pounds, which is equally high.
Atlis XT is considered a full-size truck and, unlike with the Rivian R1T, a 6.5 or 8-foot bed can be selected. Clearly then, this is a larger truck than Rivian’s. It’s 8-lug wheel design suggests its a heavy-hauler too.

Configurations & Options

With this being a proper truck, there are all sorts of configurations. For example, depending on how its configured, the Atlis XT has a conventional towing ability between 5,000 – 20,000 lbs. The truck has a 5th-wheel trailering capacity of between 10,000 – 35,000 lbs. Payload capacities would range between 1,000 – 5,000 lbs.
There’s a standard crew cab with a shorter bed that offers standard air suspension (independent at all four corners) with 12 inches of ground clearance. But for more extreme use, there’s a special “off-road” version with long travel suspension and 15 inches of clearance.
A dually is reportedly planned too and this would be the heaviest hauler of them all.
Like with Rivian, multiple battery pack sizes will be offered. Atlis says the shortest range XT will still go 300 miles. Other options are for 400 miles of range and the aforementioned 500-mil max range version. Recharging is claimed to take only 15 minutes, though specs and details on this have not been released.
As for performance, 0 to 60 MPH is achieved in 5 seconds. However, even a fully loaded Atlis XT can still accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 18 seconds. Atlis uses what it calls its XP platform on the XT. This setup utilizes 4-independent electric motors, one for each well. So, it’s 4WD then.
The interior is rather luxurious looking and can set up to 6 individuals in total.

Ordering & Additional Info

Though far from reality right now (funding is still not fully secured), Atlis says it hopes to launch the XT sometime in 2020. No pricing information is available at this time though.
