The upcoming 2015 Jeep Renegade broke cover just a few days ahead of this year’s Geneva auto show, and immediately caused a sensation. Here was a small, 4 cylinder Jeep that was closer in size and power to the original Willys Jeeps than anything had been in years- and just about everyone loves the thing.
In the days that followed, we learned that the 2015 Jeep Renegade would ride on a beefed-up version of the Fiat Panda / 500L AWD platform with sixteen possible engine and transmission combinations across Fiat/Jeep’s global markets, including a four different gasoline engines (at least two of which are shared with corporate cousin, the Dodge Dart) and a pair of Fiat-developed common rail diesel motors that the US won’t be getting, initially.
Still, what we love about the new mini Jeep isn’t the fuel economy (which is great), the ultra-low emissions engines (which are also great), or the bi-fuel capable fuel systems being installed in these things overseas (which, you know, are great- but would be better if they were available here). No, what we love is the chunky Panda chassis’ looks and the way the 2015 Jeep Renegade does a better impersonation of the classic Cherokee than the Jeep Cherokee does.
